Sharks are one of the many animals that appear in the Jungle Emperor universe
Description[]
Sharks are a group of fish whose evolution dates back to more than 420 million years ago. They are most commonly depicted in popular culture as particularly large and more threatening than other fish, when in fact they comprise of a wide range of sizes and shapes consisting of over 500 separate species.
Sawsharks have a pair of long barbels about halfway along the snout. They have two dorsal fins, but lack anal fins. Genus Pliotrema has six gill slits, and Pristiophorus the more usual five. The teeth of the saw typically alternate between large and small. Saw sharks reach a length of up to 5 feet and a weight now of 18.7 pounds with females tending to be slightly larger than males.
The body of a longnose saw shark is covered in tiny placoid scales: modified teeth covered in hard enamel. The body is a yellow-brown color which is sometimes covered in dark spots or blotches. This coloration allows the saw shark to easily blend with the sandy ocean floor.
Social Characteristics[]
Sharks are characterized by a cartilaginous skeleton, five to seven gill slits on the sides of the head, and pectoral fins that are not fused to the head. Modern sharks are classified within the clade Selachimorpha (or Selachii) and are the sister group to the rays. However, the term "shark" has also been used for extinct members of the subclass Elasmobranchii outside the Selachimorpha, such as Cladoselache and Xenacanthus, as well as other Chondrichthyes such as the holocephalid eugenedontidans.
In the Universe[]
In the manga, 1965 series, and The Symphonic Poem, the only shark species that appears is The Sawshark who tried to eat Kimba (Leo) but was defeated by him.
