The Eternal Mount Moon (ムーン山よ永遠に) is the 26th (last) episode of Leo the Lion (Onward, Leo). This episode acts as the second part of the series finale.
Synopsis[]
Kimba (Leo) aids the humans in their expedition to Mt. Moon in search of the Moonlight Stones. It is said that no human has come back alive from the mountain and they face many dangers along the way.
Plot[]
Taking place directly after The Green Plague, Mr. Pompous (Dr. Mustache) asks Leo to guide his men up Mount Moon to find the Moonlight Stones. Leo refuses, and the humans leave the next day, but lose their helicopter when they fly into an approaching storm, which Leo and his animals save them. That night, Leo changes his mind thanks to Kitty (Laiya). Unknowingly to them, Lune decides to come along as well. Lune is found out, but is allowed to come by Mr. Pompous.
On the way up Mount Moon, Lune is struck ill with a high fever. The whole team is then found and attacked by a huge group of Dinosaurs, getting rescued by The Mammoth (Great Mother). After explaining the situation to her, she guides them up the mountain, helping heal Rune along the way up. With her help, they all reach the summit where they find a huge concentration of Moonlight stones. Leo and Lune reach the very top, becoming the first ever animals to stand on top of Mount Moon.
On the way down, a snowstorm hits Mount Moon. This event kills multiple characters: Calvis and Prominence get blown away in the storm, Rommel rebels against the group and gets lost in the blizzard, and Dr. Plus sacrifices himself so the others won't wait for him. A avalanche occurs as Leo, Lune and Mr. Pompous try to find Dr. Plus, leading Leo to think Lune was killed and attacks Mr. Pompous before passing out. he and Leo enter a snow cave, ready to accept their fate. Lune reveals to be alive and saves both Leo and Mr. Pompous, bringing them back to the Jungle.
It ends with an epilogue: Mr. Pompous receives a letter from Leo, Leo revealing that Rune has become a strong leader and his name changed from Rune to "Ruun".

Trivia[]
- Like the Green Plague, the outcome differs from both the manga and the 1997 film: In both other versions, Leo dies on the summit of mount moon, his fur and meat used to save Mr. Pompous's life. Rune was also originally not even in the jungle at the time, let alone apart of the mission, and returns to the jungle after Mr. Pompous returns from the mountain.
